History of Floorball Philippines
Floorball was started by pastors in Sweden. They developed a sport that could be played indoor in a gym through out the year specially during winter. This became a fast growing sport in Europe, North America and Asia.
Homeschool group Kreative Kids together with Athletes In Action started Floorball (indoor hockey) in the Philippines in 2008. It was introduced by a Scandinavian missionary and IFF provided the equipment. We had our first training in the Greenhills Christian Fellowship (GCF) gym. We introduced it to different universities and schools: University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD), University of Makati (UMAK), Bethel International School in Tacloban, Faith Christian School in Cainta and Lagro High School and their community. We provided free clinics and training, coaching and shared the gospel in the process. Floorball is now a club and P.E. class in University of the Philippines. The University of Makati has a Varsity Team and P.E. Classes. It is now part of the sports program of Bethel International School in Tacloban and a community sport of Barangay Greater Lagro. We thank God for the privilege of pioneering Floorball in the Philippines. As we propagate Floorball as a future Olympic Sport, it is our desire to bring with it the gospel of Jesus Christ to change the lives of Floorball players and eventually change Philippine sports. As a result, Athletes in Action formed Floorball Philippines, Inc. On April 4, 2011, Floorball Philippines, Inc. was officially registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission of the Philippines as a non-profit organization. And on May 8, 2011, they were officially recognized by the International Floorball Federation as their 53rd member country. |
