Last October 1 and 8, 2011, Floorball Philippines and the University of the Philippines (UP) Floorball Club hosted the 2nd Philippine Floorball Fiesta, an annual floorball tournament which aims to bring together the different floorball communities in Manila. The event was held at the UP College of Human Kinetics (CHK) Gym, Diliman, Quezon City. With 14 participating teams and over 200 players, one-third of which came from the Physical Education program of the UP CHK, the event was a platform for floorball development and exhibition in the country.
The top teams in the tournament were the University of Makati (UMak), UP Athletes in Action (AIA), UP Angry Macaroons and Barangay Lagro Floorball team. During the semi-finals, The UMak team won against the UP Angry Macaroons, while the Lagro team lost against the UP AIA. The final game between the UP AIA and the UMak showed immense intensity and vigor. With both teams composed of highly competitive players, it was unpredictable. The UP AIA tried their best to penetrate the defense of UMak using fast passing and quick shots, but only scoring 2 goals. On the other hand, the UMak team used their effective offensive strategies and quick moves, successfully getting in 5 goals. The UP AIA were unable to catch up and the UMak won the tournament. The tournament made a positive impact in the promotion and development of floorball in the Philippines. With the success of the recent Philippine Floorball Fiesta, Floorball Philippines is looking forward to organize the first-ever Philippine Floorball Championships next year with participating teams from other regions of the country.
