UP CHK – UMak Hardy Herons once and for all proves stronger than Team Manila as they win with an overwhelming 6-point lead. This secures them the championship of the 1st Philippine Floorball League.
The two UMak wings Polo and Melencion lifted their team to the championship; with Polo sharp as ever scoring 8 goals, 3 of which are assisted by Melencion. On the other hand, Diones was the top scorer for Team Manila with 3 unassisted goals,
As usual, Team Manila takes the initiative at the beginning of the match, Diones sneaking in the first goal from a UMak defensive miscommunication. Despite that, the Manila defensive line was already showing signs of leniency to the extremely agile Polo and Melencion. At 3:10, Polo begins the UMak streak, followed by another just 27 seconds after c/o Melencion. At 8:20 Polo again fires a point-blank shot after a rebound from Melencion’s offensive. However, Diones shows that Team Manila is not yet dead, scoring two minutes before the end of the period.
The second period was completely dominated by UMak’s Polo and Dulnuan. Polo assisted by Dulnuan scored just 2 minutes into the period. Pressured, Team Manila regroups their defense and Rentero assisted by Tan manages to close the gap to 4-3. However, the last minute of neglect cost Team Manila two precious goals ending the period at 6-3.
Once again, an unassisted goal from Diones starts to raise Team Manila’s morale, but UMak’s solid defensive backbone remained unintimidated. Meanwhile, Polo and Melencion kept their nonstop offensive and left Team Manila on the ground with a 6-point lead at the end of the game.
The First Philippine Floorball League is almost over! Will Team Manila maintain their current rank? Watch the conclusion of the matches on Saturday, August 31 at the UP College of Human Kinetics.
