The Philippines’ only floorball organisation will send out its men’s and women’s floorball teams for a stake at regional glory in the first Southeast Asian (SEA) Floorball Championships, which will be held in Singapore on the 17th to 21st of December 2014. Along with teams from Indonesia, Malaysia and the host nation, Floorball Philippines will vie for honours as the sport raises its profile as an emerging sport in the region.
Floorball in the Philippines is a relatively new sport, introduced to the country in 2009. But this has not deterred Filipinos from taking interest and catching up with this exhilarating and wonderful sport. Through clinics, seminars, and competitions under the guidance of Floorball Philippines, the appetite for floorball has been growing, now with more than 10 educational institutions adopting the sport in their PE programs (from primary up to tertiary) and more than a thousand exposed to the sport . As such, most of the players who will represent Floorball Philippines in this event are students from the nation’s universities.
With this, Floorball Philippines will need the utmost support for these players to participate in the 1st SEA Floorball Championships. Participation in this tournament will bolster Floorball Philippines’ status as a recognized member of the Philippine Olympic Committee and eventually representing the Philippines in the 28th Southeast Asian Games in Singapore next year. With floorball through the International Floorball Federation (IFF) already recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Floorball Philippines’ participation will give the momentum needed for floorball in the Philippines to develop, progress and compete at the international stage. Thus, Floorball Philippines hopes for your partnership for the 1st Southeast Asian Floorball Championships.
