SFA Coaching Course practical activity
Floorball Philippines, represented by Ralph Andrew Ramos, participated in the Floorball Coaching Course (Level 1) organized by the Singapore Floorball Association (SFA), in partnership with the Singapore Sports Council (SSC). The Level 1 coaching course was held last July 5 to 8, 2012 at the Valhall Floorball Academy in Singapore.
The 3-day Floorball coaching course was facilitated by Filip and Stefan Dahlgren, the Swede brothers who introduced Floorball in Singapore in the 90’s. The course covered the basic technical skills in Floorball, from proper stick handling and dribbling to shooting and passing. In addition, basic tactical strategies such as playing system, defensive transition, and offensive transition were introduced in the course. The Level 1 course also discussed modern approaches in Floorball coaching including sport pedagogy, planning and programming, strength and conditioning, functional training, etc.
The course provided a lot of theoretical and practical information in teaching and coaching Floorball, which are very easy to understand for beginner level players. Common problems and issues in Floorball coaching (i.e., handling youth teams, incorrect handling of stick, etc.) were also addressed and explained. The coaching course opens up a great opportunity to propagate the sport in the Philippines in the correct way, with a good foundation for the development of local Floorball players.
In view of one of the mid-term goals of Floorball Philippines, the implementation of the Level 1 coaching course in the country’s floorball development is a good start in achieving its aim to participate in the 2015 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Singapore. Floorball Philippines also looks forward to players with good foundational skills as the course is applied in the national program.
